The Workout
The Office Potato Workout is a vigorous exercise routine that includes all the basic components of a complete fitness program.
After a short introduction and few tips to ensure a safe and effective workout you start the workout with a 12-minute cardio warm-up. This gets your heart and lungs working to send oxygen and nutrients to your muscles and warms the muscles to prevent injury and reduce soreness.
We then stretch to prepare muscles for strength training and increase flexibility.
We start our strength section with some legwork. This is the only section that's performed standing, however some of the legwork can be performed in a chair.
We move back to the chair and pick up optional hand weights to get a full body strength workout. The sustained effort necessary to this point is great for endurance.
This is followed by a stretching cool down to bring your body back to normal and lower your heart rate.
We finish with some breathing exercise to make your diaphragm more efficient and improve oxygen intake.
Mini Workout
Once you have a working knowledge of the different segments of the workout, you can take a sampling of each segment and string them together for a 5 to 10 minute, mini workout. Staggering 2 or 3 of these mini workouts throughout the day, will allow you to be energized, focus better and relive muscle stiffness.
For a mini workout remove any jacket or sweater you happen to be are wearing and loosen your shirt collar. Start by taking a 3 to 5 minute sampling of a few of the warm-up moves. Then follow up with a few stretches, concentrating on the muscle groups you plan to strengthen. Next, grab some hand weights (you keep nearby) and work 3 or 4 strength exercises on muscles you've stretched. Finish up with some deep breathing and you have a mini workout!
